Each January, talented instrumental musicians in grades 6—12 compete in
the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra's Young Artist Competition.
The purpose of the competition is to promote, encourage, and nurture
the talents of Tri-State youth through educational concerts and
performance opportunities.
The competition is funded by the Musicians Club of Evansville/Margaret
B. & Leo Heim Memorial Scholarship Fund, and is open to students
attending school within a 100-mile radius of Evansville, IN.
A grand prize, second and third prize are awarded. The Grand Prize
includes a solo appearance with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra.
Prize money awarded to the outstanding musicians of the competition is
earmarked for further music studies, including but not limited to:
- summer music camp
- tuition to an
accredited post-secondary school of music
- tuition to an accredited music school
academy
- the purchase towards a
high quality instrument
- private lessons
(where the financial means of the winner is too severely limited for private lessons)
