Evansville Philharmonic orchestra goes through Homeland security process to bring international percussion virtuoso to the tri-state
Evansville, Indiana – It has taken 10 months of paperwork and international phone calls, but this week, Mr. Filippo Lattanzi, internationally renown percussion virtuoso, will arrive in the Tri-State. Mr. Lattanzi will be the featured guest artist in the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Red Hot Percussion” concert to be held at 8:00 p.m. at the Victory Theatre on Saturday, October 21. Since February, the orchestra has worked to secure an international worker’s visa to bring Mr. Lattanzi’s artistry to the Tri-State. According to Kimberly Bredemeier, the Philharmonic’s director of operations, paperwork cannot be filed with U.S. Homeland Security until six months prior to the artist entering the country, which makes timing crucial. Bredemeier says, “I can’t say this process was not nerve-racking…To make sure I was correct in my timing, I continually checked with the ASOL (American Symphony Orchestra League) Government Affairs and U.S. Homeland Security website / Visa Processing.” Mr. Lattanzi performs as a concert soloist in Italy, France, Greece, Germany, Poland, Turkey and the United States. In 1996, he was selected to represent Italy in the most prestigious European exhibitions of contemporary music. This weekend, Mr. Lattanzi will light up the Victory’s stage. Prior to the concert, audience members are invited to join Mr.Lattanzi and Maestro Alfred Savia at 7:00 p.m. for “Concert Conversations” – an informal discussion on the evening’s program. “Red Hot Percussion”, conducted by Maestro Savia, includes famous music from Bizet’s Carmen - an unusual arrangement by Rodion Shchedrin entitled Carmen Suite for Percussion and Strings - followed by Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 2., and Joseph Schwantner’s Percussion Concerto featuring Mr. Lattanzi. Tickets for “Red Hot Percussion” start at $18. Student price is $10 one hour before each concert. College student ID is required. For tickets, call the Philharmonic Box Office at (812) 425 – 5050 or order online at www.evansvillephilharmonic.org. “Red Hot Percussion” is sponsored by Mrs. John Philip Robertson and Atlas Van Lines. Season sponsor for “Philharmonic on Fire 2006-2007” is 14 WFIE.
