Members of the Eykamp String Quartet serve as principal string players of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and as Artists in Residence at the University of Evansville.
The Eykamp String Quartet provides classical music performances of artistic excellence and passion. This dynamic quartet is committed to ensuring that both chamber and orchestral music are a vital part of our community and beyond.
The Eykamp Family established the quartet and vision in 2002.

Gared Crawford, Violinist, is the newly appointed Acting Concertmaster of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a recent graduate of Northwestern University and in 2006-07 he served as the Associate Concertmaster of the South Bend Symphony. In 2005 he served as Concertmaster for the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra. During his studies, Mr. Crawford performed as soloist with the Oberlin Conservatory Orchestra as well as the Philharmonia Orchestra of Northwestern University. He was also a recipient of Grand Prize in the 55th annual Colemann Chamber Music Compeitition and from 2001-2003 gave nationwide performances with the Erato String Quartet.
Mae Lin, Violinist, is serving as Acting Associate Concertmaster of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2007-2008 season. A native of Seattle, Ms. Lin received a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in performance from The Juilliard School where she studied with Naoko Tanaka. At Juilliard, she participated as Concertmaster of the Juilliard Symphony and was a member of the Axiom Ensemble, a group dedicated to the performance of contemporary music. She has attended the Aspen Music Festival where she was a recipient of the Orchestral and Mentor Fellowship, the New York String Orchestra Seminar, and the Spoleto, Italy Music Festival. Most recently, she attended the Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland where she served as Associate Concertmaster of the Festival Orchestra under such renowned conductors as Zubin Mehta, Esa-Peka Salonen, and Mikael Pletnev. In 2007, Ms. Lin was accepted to the New World Symphony as a fellow. She also enjoys tennis and improvising and playing with rock bands. Her most recent collaborations have been with singer/songwriter Teddy Geiger. Together, they opened for Lionel Richie and were featured on the syndicated television show, "Live with Regis and Kelly."
Craig Bate, Violist, is serving as Acting Principal Violist of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and is also Principal Violist of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the Juilliard School and Indiana University, Mr. Bate has appeared as a soloist throughout the United States, including a recent concerto performance in Bloomington, IN, as the winner of Indiana University's Concerto Competition. He attended the Aspen Music Festival as a fellowship recipient for four years and the New York String Orchestra Seminar, led by Jaime Laredo in Carnegie Hall. Mr. Bate was the Grand Prize Winner at the 2002 International Gee Viola Competition in Aspen, Colorado. At age 17, Mr. Bate won a position with the Madison Symphony Orchestra where he was offered tenure two years later. In 2006-07 he also held the position of Principal Violist of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra.
Kevin Bate, Cellist, was recently appointed as Acting Principal Cellist of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mr. Bate is an active soloist and chamber musician. He has soloed with orchestras in Europe and North America and has given recitals on both continents. As a champion of contemporary music, Mr. Bate has premiered several new compositions and has collaborated in recording new works under the Summit label. Mr. Bate holds a Bachelor of Music degree from De Pauw Univeristy and a Performance Diploma from Indiana University where he worked with the Master Cellist Janos Starker.
