Members of the Eykamp String Quartet serve as principal string players of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and as Artists in Residence at the University of Evansville.
The Eykamp String Quartet provides classical music performances of artistic excellence and passion. This dynamic quartet is committed to ensuring that both chamber and orchestral music are a vital part of our community and beyond.
The Eykamp Family established the quartet and vision in 2002.
2012-2013 Quartet Members
Tim Kantor, Violinist, was appointed concertmaster of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Eykamp String Quartet in August 2012.. An avid chamber musician, Tim is a founding member of the Larchmere String Quartet. He has also performed as a member of the Kuttner String Quartet in residence at Indiana University, the chamber music and “Quartet in the Community” residencies at the Banff Centre, the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet Chamber Music Seminar. Tim is devoted to the performance of new music and has participated as soloist, concertmaster and chamber musician with the New Music Ensembles at CIM and Indiana University. He also performs as a soloist and chamber musician with the Percussion Plus Project at DePauw University and with Margaret Brouwer’s Blue Streak Ensemble. Tim graduated with honors from Bowdoin College and has a Masters degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Tim is currently pursuing his doctorate in violin performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Tim is also a dedicated teacher and is the Assistant Professor of Violin at the Fundación por la Musica in Santo Domingo.
Sun Hye Oh, Violinist, was appointed Associate Concertmaster of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Eykamp String Quartet in August 2012. Sun Hye was born in Seoul, Korea, and earned a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from Wichita State University. She went on to earn her Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas. Before joining the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, she was a member of Wichita Symphony, Richardson Symphony and Las Colinas Symphony. Sun Hye performed in class for three renowned violinists: Gil Shaham, Chee Yun and Kyoko Takezawa. As a chamber musician, she won the Konrad Wolff-Ilse Bing Chamber Music Competition and was a member of the prestigious Bancroft String Quartet at University of North Texas.
Rose Wollman, Violist, was appointed Principal Violist of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Eykamp String Quartet in August 2012. Rose is an active performer, teacher, chamber and orchestral musician. She is currently the violist of the Larchmere String Quartet. Rose is also the violist of the Petar Jankovic Ensemble, comprised of string quartet and guitar, which specializes in Spanish and Latin American Music. This group has toured extensively in the United States and Europe, and released its first CD From Spain to Tango in 2011. Rose is dedicated to the promotion and performance of new music, and has commissioned and premiered many works. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in viola performance from the University of Illinois, a Master of Music degree and a Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory, and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Music degree at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Schuyler Slack, Cellist, was appointed Principal Cello of the Evansville Phiharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Eykamp String Quartet in August 2012.. Schuyler decided he wanted to play the cello at age three when he watched Yo-Yo Ma play on TV. A native of Alexandria, Virginia, his musical endeavors have led to performances across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. Schuyler is a founding member of the Larchmere String Quartet. In addition to playing chamber music, he is regularly engaged in the cello section of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He has also held positions in the Akron and Canton Symphony Orchestras in Ohio. After completing undergraduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2010, Schuyler is currently finishing his pursuit of a Professional Studies Certificate from the same institution. He has participated in additional studies with numerous quartets including the Juilliard Quartet and the St. Lawrence Quartet. Schuyler has also participated in two Banff Centre Summer Chamber Music Residencies.
