The Indianapolis and Evansville children's choirs will pitch in and members of Evansville Dance Theatre will turn out in The Victory this weekend for the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra's "Christmas Through the Eyes of Children" Peppermint Pops concerts.

Performing under the direction of Alfred Savia, the orchestra's music director and conductor, singers, dancers and musicians will draw on film, television, ballet and traditional holiday music for concerts beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

STORY TOOLS

Musicians and dancers will fill the stage. They'll include more than 120 singers (82 from the Indianapolis Children's Choir, 40 from the Evansville Children's Choirs), 70 instrumentalists and a dozen dancers and others, including a jolly old Christmas elf.

The Peppermint Pops Santa will appear on stage and in the lobby, where he'll pose with audience members for Polaroids costing $5.

McKenna Peach, 10, a fifth-grader at Chandler Elementary School, will narrate the program, which will feature music from films including "Home Alone" and "The Polar Express," television specials including "A Charlie Brown Christmas," ballet's "Nutcracker" and traditional holiday music from the United States and around the world.

The Philharmonic encourages audience members to begin their holiday giving with donations for hungry families. Representatives from the Tri-State Food Bank, which provides nourishment to local families in need, will collect cash, checks and nonperishable food items at each performance.

Some sections have sold out, but seats are still available from $27 to $61, and $10 student "rush" seats will go on sale an hour before each performance. For more information, visit http://www.evansvillephilharmonic.org/ or call the Philharmonic at 425-5050.
