Love Duets Print E-mail

Saturday, November 15, 2008 8:00pm
at the Victory Theatre

Alfred Savia, Conductor

Jaime Laredo
Jaime Laredo, Violin

Sharon Robinson
Sharon Robinson, Cello

Savor the effects of a love potion that leaves you (and Tristan & Isolde) with an unquenchable yearning for more! The seduction begins with the story of two devoted lovers, driven by desire and eternally united.

Next, husband and wife duo Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson complete the perfect marriage of violin and cello with orchestra in this piece by Miklos Rozsa, composer of the Ben-Hur film score. Then, in his second symphony, Beethoven successfully joins witty playfulness with sublime elegance — a refreshing combination!

Wagner Prelude & Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde
Rozsa Sinfonia Concertante for Violin & Cello *
Beethoven Symphony No. 2

Jaime Laredo is currently the President of the Jury of the Intermational Violin Competition of Indianapolis, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world.  He also serves as music director for the Vermont Symphony. He made his stunning orchestral debut at the age of eleven with the San Francisco Symphony.  At the age of seventeen, Laredo won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Competition, launching his rise to international prominence.  In 2005 Mr. Laredo accepted a chaired position at the Indiana University School of Music.

Sharon Robinson is a member of the cello faculty at the Indiana University School of Music.  Born into a musical family (her father was a bass player, her mother a violinist and all her siblings are string players), Ms. Robinson gave her first concert when she was seven and has since received numerous honors and awards: the Avery Fisher Recital Award, the Pro Musicis Award, the Leventritt Foundation Award, the Gregor Piatigorsky Memorial Award and a GRAMMY nomination.  Ms. Robinson's television appearances have included The Tonight Show, The Today Show, The Kennedy Center Honors on CBS, and a profile on CBS Sunday Morning.
