philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate American composers and spirit
Evansville, Indiana – The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra will salute American
composers who have captured the American spirit in its upcoming Classics
concert “American Flair” on Saturday, February 23 at 8:00 p.m. at the Victory
Theatre. The program will include
Leonard Bernstein’s rousing Candide Overture and Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 3
featuring his popular Fanfare for the Common Man theme. Russell Peck’s Voice of the Wood will showcase a quartet of cellists: Kevin Bate, Carrie
Cimildoro-Beem, Jennifer Wingert, and Ignacio Gallego Fernandez.
Kevin Bate is
Acting Principal Cellist of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Artist in
Residence at the University of Evansville
as a member of the Eykamp String Quartet. Mr. Bate has soloed with orchestras
in Europe and North America. Carrie Cimildoro-Beem, in her fourth season
as Assistant Principal Cellist of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, is
also a two-time participant with the National Orchestral Institute. Jennifer
Wingert, Adjunct Instructor of Cello at the University of Evansville
and Murray State University,
is a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and maintains a private
teaching studio. Ignacio Gallego
Fernandez has studied the cello since the age of thirteen and has played
internationally as a soloist. Fernandez now serves as Principal Cellist for the
Concert Orchestra at Indiana
University.
Prior to the concert, audience members are
invited to join Maestro Alfred Savia
at 7:00 p.m. for “Concert Conversations” – an informal discussion on the
evening’s program. Featured cellists
Kevin Bate and Ignacio
Gallego Fernandez will join Maestro Savia for this enlightening discussion. Immediately following the concert, Maestro
Savia and composer Russell Peck will be available to autograph CDs of their
joint project, “Thrill of the Orchestra.”
Tickets for
“American Flair” start at $15. Student
price is $10 one hour before the concert.
