Evansville philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate American composers and spirit

Evansville, Indiana           The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra will salute American composers who have captured the American spirit in its upcoming Classics concert “American Flair” on Saturday, February 23 at 8:00 p.m. at the Victory Theatre.  The program will include Leonard Bernstein’s rousing Candide Overture and Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 3 featuring his popular Fanfare for the Common Man theme.  Russell Peck’s Voice of the Wood will showcase a quartet of cellists: Kevin Bate, Carrie Cimildoro-Beem, Jennifer Wingert, and Ignacio Gallego Fernandez.

Kevin Bate is Acting Principal Cellist of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Artist in Residence at the University of Evansville as a member of the Eykamp String Quartet. Mr. Bate has soloed with orchestras in Europe and North America.  Carrie Cimildoro-Beem, in her fourth season as Assistant Principal Cellist of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, is also a two-time participant with the National Orchestral Institute. Jennifer Wingert, Adjunct Instructor of Cello at the University of Evansville and Murray State University, is a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and maintains a private teaching studio.  Ignacio Gallego Fernandez has studied the cello since the age of thirteen and has played internationally as a soloist. Fernandez now serves as Principal Cellist for the Concert Orchestra at Indiana University.

Prior to the concert, audience members are invited to join Maestro Alfred Savia at 7:00 p.m. for “Concert Conversations” – an informal discussion on the evening’s program.  Featured cellists Kevin Bate and Ignacio Gallego Fernandez will join Maestro Savia for this enlightening discussion.  Immediately following the concert, Maestro Savia and composer Russell Peck will be available to autograph CDs of their joint project, “Thrill of the Orchestra.”

Tickets for “American Flair” start at $15.  Student price is $10 one hour before the concert.  College student ID is required.  For tickets, call the Philharmonic Box Office at (812) 425 – 5050 or order online at www.evansvillephilharmonic.org.

“American Flair” is sponsored by Atlas Van Lines and Mrs. John Philip Robertson.  This performance is made possible in part by an American Masterpiece grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.  Guest artist appearances are sponsored by Dr. Ray and Cynthia Nicholson.  Media sponsor of the Philharmonic’s “…And the Heat Goes On” 2007-2008 season is 14 WFIE.
