Evansville native returns home to perform with the Evansville Philharmonic orchestra
Evansville, Indiana – The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra presents its Classics concert “Mozart, Mahler & Magic” featuring soprano Kendra Colton on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at the Victory Theatre. Ms. Colton, a native of Evansville, has
been soloist with leading orchestras including the Boston Symphony
Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco
Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Houston Symphony,
National Symphony, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. Her singing career has taken her to Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and England. “Kendra
Colton happens to be one of the most sublime sopranos alive,
PERIOD! I know of no one who has as beautiful voice AND sings SO
musically,” says Alfred Savia, music director of the Philharmonic.
Prior
to the concert, audience members are invited to join Maestro Alfred
Savia at 7:00 p.m. for “Concert Conversations” – an informal discussion
on the evening’s program. The program includes Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate followed by Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. Both pieces feature Ms. Colton. “The
audience will leave the concert feeling they have experienced glimpses
of heaven,” says Philharmonic executive director, Glenn Roberts. He
adds, “The Mozart is divine, and this Mahler symphony is the most
uplifting, optimistic, and almost child-like in character of all his
symphonies, and it’s the shortest! If I were to choose one adjective
for the evening, it would be ‘angelic’.”
Tickets for “Mozart, Mahler & Magic” start at $15. Student price is $10 one hour before each concert. College student ID is required. For tickets, call the Philharmonic Box Office at (812) 425 – 5050 or order online at www.evansvillephilharmonic.org.
“Mozart, Mahler & Magic” is sponsored by Fifth Third Bank. Ms. Colton’s appearance is sponsored by the Evansville Philharmonic Guild. Media sponsor of the Philharmonic’s “…And the Heat Goes On” 2007-2008 season is 14 WFIE.
