EVANSVILLE PHILHARMONIC YOUTH ORCHESTRAS PERFORM FALL CONCERT ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH.

Evansville, Indiana – The Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (EPYO & EPYO II) will present their Fall Concert on Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. on the Victory Theatre stage.  EPYO II consists of tri-state students in grades 6-9 and EPYO includes tri-state students in grades 9-12.  This performance is the first opportunity this season for these outstanding young people to showcase their talents.

EPYO II, under the direction of Sheryl Schuster, will begin the concert with a musical voyage with stops in Scotland and Spain before arriving at their final destination – the hallowed halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.  Selections will include Bizet’s Farandole, By Loch and Mountain by Robert W. Smith, two movements from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, and the unmistakable magical melodies from John Williams’ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.  The EPYO II strings will also have the opportunity to kick up their hills in Soon Hee Newbold’s Blue Fire Fiddler, and have some good old fashioned fun with the One Bow Concerto by Richard Meyer, featuring soloists Tony Huang, violin; Tyler Vest, viola; and Sasha Feinberg, cello.

Under the baton of Maestro Alfred Savia, EPYO will begin the second half of the program with one of the most recognizable pieces of the 20th Century - Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man featuring the EPYO brass and percussion sections, followed by John Williams’ robust and  brassy overture to the 1972 John Wayne film, The Cowboys; Grieg’s Last Spring, featuring the EPYO strings; the final movement of Dvorak’s Serenade in D minor for winds; Fantasia on “Greensleeves” by Vaughn-Williams; The Masquerade Suite by Khatchaturian, and closing with William Walton’s Crown Imperial March.

General admission is $7.00 and tickets may be purchased by calling the Philharmonic Box Office at 812/425-5050 or ordering online at www.evansvillephilharmonic.org.

The Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestras offer exciting performance opportunities for talented high school and middle school students in the tri-state area.  This performance is made possible in part by Mrs. George Eykamp, the Indiana Arts Commission, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, Inc., and the City of Evansville.
