Evansville Philharmonic Receives Grant from Target for Lollipop Concerts
Evansville, Indiana — The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra today announced a partnership with Target as the recipient of a $5,000 educational grant. The
grant will be used to help underwrite the Philharmonic’s annual
Lollipop Concerts for preschool aged children to be presented October
23, 24, 25, 29, and 30th at the Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville. The concerts are also co-sponsored by Lewis Bakeries, a long-standing supporter of the Philharmonic and its education programs.
The
Lollipop Concerts are a series of 45-minute “informances” that invite
children to explore the different families of orchestral instruments,
while introducing them to live symphonic music through interaction with
Evansville Philharmonic musicians. The concerts are
presented by ten of the principal musicians of the Evansville
Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Assistant Conductor
Joseph Eunkwan Choi. This year’s concerts entitled “The Magic of Music,” feature the “spooktacular” music of Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and will allow children to discover how music tells a story.
In
addition to the Lollipop performances, children may learn more about
music and the performing arts by exploring selected areas of the
Children’s Museum (cMoe). cMoe is offering a special museum exploration package just for Lollipop Concert participants. This mini-field trip includes 45 minutes of exploration in three of their most popular galleries, including Speak Loud which allows children to play instruments from around the world. Due to limited space, pre-registration is required.
This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. Since
opening its doors, Target has given 5% of its income to organizations
that support education, the arts and safe families and communities.
Today that translates to $3 million every week.
“At Target, we are making a real difference every day through our
grant-making program,” said Laysha Ward, vice president, community
relations, Target. “We’re proud to partner with the Evansville
Philharmonic Orchestra as part of our ongoing commitment to give back
to the communities where our guests and team members live and work.” # # #
