a tribute to jazz legends:  Philharmonic & acclaimed trumpeter to get joint jumpin’ with a little “misbehavin’”

Evansville, Indiana –           The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra is proud to present jazz singer and trumpeter Byron Stripling for two performances of “Misbehavin’ Tonight” - a foot-stomping, jazzy tribute to the legendary Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Cab Calloway on Saturday, April 12 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Victory Theatre in downtown Evansville.  Also, featured as a guest conductor, will be Conductor’s Challenge maestro, Dan Carwile.  Mr. Carwile, whom many know as Executive Vice President and manager of the Wealth Management Division of Integra Bank, will conduct the orchestra during its first piece.

Accomplished actor, singer and world-renowned jazz trumpeter Byron Stripling, under the direction of Maestro Alfred Savia, will light up the stage in performances of Sweet Georgia Brown, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, and Ain’t Misbehavin’ to name a few.   The St. Louis Post Dispatch proclaims Stripling “…has pizzazz, he has charisma…It was a thrilling ride."  This jam session will have audiences dancin’ in the aisles.  The fun will conclude with a tribute to Louis Armstrong which will include favorites such as Hello Dolly, Mack the Knife, What a Wonderful World and more.

Byron Stripling served as lead trumpeter and soloist for the Count Basie Orchestra and has been featured with Boston Pops, National Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, and many, many more. Millions have heard Stripling’s trumpet and voice on television commercials and TV theme songs including “20/20” and CNN.  Stripling appeared as featured soloist on the PBS television special “Evening at Pops” and viewers enjoyed his solo on the worldwide telecast of the GRAMMY Awards. He made his first Carnegie Hall debut with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops and now serves as artistic director and conductor of the highly acclaimed Columbus Jazz Orchestra.

Tickets start at $15.  Student price is $10 at the door one hour before each concert.  Student ID is required.  For tickets, call the Philharmonic Box Office at (812) 425 – 5050 or order online at  www.evansvillephilharmonic.org.
