a tribute to jazz
legends: Philharmonic & acclaimed
trumpeter to get joint jumpin’ with a little “misbehavin’”
Evansville, Indiana – The Evansville
Philharmonic Orchestra is proud to present jazz singer and trumpeter Byron
Stripling for two performances of “Misbehavin’ Tonight” - a foot-stomping, jazzy
tribute to the legendary Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Cab Calloway on Saturday,
April 12 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Victory Theatre
in downtown Evansville. Also, featured as a guest conductor, will be Conductor’s
Challenge maestro, Dan Carwile. Mr.
Carwile, whom many know as Executive Vice President
and manager of the Wealth Management Division of Integra Bank, will conduct the
orchestra during its first piece.
Accomplished
actor, singer and world-renowned jazz trumpeter Byron Stripling, under the
direction of Maestro Alfred Savia,
will light up the stage in performances of Sweet
Georgia Brown, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, and Ain’t Misbehavin’ to name a few.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch proclaims Stripling “…has pizzazz, he has
charisma…It was a thrilling ride." This jam session will have audiences
dancin’ in the aisles. The fun will
conclude with a tribute to Louis Armstrong which will include favorites such as
Hello Dolly, Mack the Knife, What a Wonderful World and more.
Byron Stripling served
as lead trumpeter and soloist for the Count Basie Orchestra and has been
featured with Boston Pops, National Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Baltimore Symphony,
and many, many more. Millions have heard Stripling’s trumpet and voice on
television commercials and TV theme songs including “20/20” and CNN. Stripling appeared as featured soloist on the
PBS television special “Evening at Pops” and viewers enjoyed his solo on the
worldwide telecast of the GRAMMY Awards. He made his first Carnegie Hall debut
with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops and now serves as artistic director
and conductor of the highly acclaimed Columbus Jazz Orchestra.
