YOUNG VIOLINIST SURVIVES FIRE, WINS INTERNATIONAL
COMPETITION,
WILL PERFORM WITH EVANSVILLE
PHILHARMONIC DAYS BEFORE CARNEGIE HALL DEBUT
Evansville, Indiana
– Augustin Hadelich (AH-gus-steen HAHD-uh-lish), gold medal winner of the
International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, will perform with the
Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra when they present “Beethoven and Arabian
Nights” on Saturday, January 19 at 8:00 pm at the Victory Theatre. “The IVCI is one of the top competitions in
the world,” says Alfred Savia, music
director for the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. Hadelich took top honors in late 2006. It was an event lasting 17 days where
participants from 22 different countries went head-to-head. The winner received a recording contract, an
American and European tour and other prizes.
As part of that tour, Mr. Hadelich will appear with the Evansville
Philharmonic Orchestra just days before his Carnegie Hall debut, scheduled for
January 25.
Hadelich began playing the violin at the age of 5. He was born in 1984 in Germany, but grew up in Tuscany.
According to a National Public Radio report, “when he was 15, a fire on
his family's farm severely burned much of his upper body, including his head
and bow arm. He didn't know whether he'd ever be able to play again.”
After multiple operations and years of recovery, Hadelich
has made a comeback and is winning awards and audiences. During “Beethoven & Arabian Nights”, Hadelich
will be featured on Beethoven’s monumental Violin Concerto. Prior to Hadelich’s performance, philharmonic
Acting Concertmaster Gared Crawford will take the spotlight during Rimski-Korsakov’s
Scheherazade.
Prior to the concert, Mr. Hadelich will join Maestro Alfred Savia for “Concert Conversations”, an
informal discussion about the evening’s program, starting at 7:00 p.m. All ticket holders are invited to join
Maestro Savia and Mr. Hadelich for an enlightening talk about the pieces.
Tickets start at $15 and can be purchased online at www.evansvillephilharmonic.org
or by calling 812 - 425 – 5050. Student
tickets are just $10 at the door one hour before the concert.
