Philharmonic chorus names new director
The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed Dennis Malfatti, an
assistant professor at the University of Evansville, as new conductor
of the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus.
Malfatti also serves as director of choral activities at UE, where he
has just completed his first year on the faculty. He previously was
director of choral activities at Longwood University in Virginia and
music director for the York River Symphony Orchestra.

Malfatti takes up the new post from Joseph Eukwan Choi, who, in May,
resigned as assistant conductor for the philharmonic and conductor for
the chorus after three years in the job.
"While Dennis has only been in Evansville for a year, his work this
past season with the University of Evansville Chorus program has been
most impressive," said Alfred Savia, the philharmonic's music director.
Savia said Malfatti also impressed him with his audition, a rehearsal
with the philharmonic chorus after which chorus members filled out
questionnaires rating the candidate.
Positive response
"The results of the survey revealed an overwhelming positive response
from chorus members," said Kimberly Bredemeier, chorus manager.
Malfatti said he's honored to get the job.
"This organization is made up of individuals who are extremely
committed to its success," he said. "They want to reach their highest
potential as choral singers and I look forward to facilitating that
process for them and for the philharmonic organization as a whole."
Savia said he looks to Malfatti to help "grow the philharmonic chorus program this next season and beyond."
The philharmonic chorus is a volunteer organization with singers from throughout the Tri-State area.
The ensemble is scheduled to perform next season in a "Messiah"
singalong in December, a Classics concert in March 2009 and in a spring
choral concert in May.
Anyone interested in auditioning for the chorus should call Bredemeier at 425-5050.
