pga golfer, iu golf coach and national championship are big draws for evansville Philharmonic’s fifth annual golf benefit

Evansville, Indiana - Participants of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra’s Fifth Annual Golf Benefit at Victoria National Golf Club on Monday, May 21, 2007 will get a chance to learn golf tips from PGA golfer and Evansville native Jeff Overton and Overton’s coach, Indiana University Golf Coach Mike Mayer.  Overton was coached by Mayer throughout his four years at IU and remains a student today.  Overton turned professional in 2005 and most recently won a purse of more than $64,000 at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in February, 2007.  Both Mr. Overton and Mr. Mayer will be available for media interviews from 9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. and together will hold a golf clinic from 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.

Mike Mayer is in his ninth season at the helm of the Indiana men’s golf program. His focus has been to rekindle the fire that brought the Indiana men’s golf team a Big Ten Championship in 1998, and he has accomplished just that.  Mayer led the Hoosiers to their third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance during the 2005-06 season, marking the first time IU collected three consecutive postseason berths since advancing to six straight from 1972-77.  Indiana also captured two team titles throughout the season, which culminated in Mayer being named both Big Ten and Midwest Region Coach of the Year.  Mayer has brought the Hoosiers into the Big Ten spotlight as the conference has emerged as one of the best in the nation.

Another major opportunity this year, Philharmonic golf participants will get the chance to bid on an extraordinary golf package for two amateur golfers to play in the Lexus Champions for Charity National Championship at Pebble Beach on December 6-8, 2007 for a purse of $100,000, courtesy of Kenny Kent Lexus.  This package will be sold during a “live” auction at the dinner following the tournament.  This opportunity is only available to Philharmonic golf participants.  Airfare, accommodations and other incidental expenses will be the responsibility of the participant.

Benefit golfers may also get a chance to win a hole-in-one prize of a $10,000.
