Evansville, Indiana – Vectren’s
Oktoberfest, part of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra’s
“Philharmonic on Fire 2006-2007” season, will bring in the German band, The
Sonnenschein (Sunshine) Express. The celebration is October 7 and 8 at the
Victory Theatre in downtown Evansville. Concert goers are invited to come down early
for dinner or lunch. Beer, brats,
sauerkraut and pretzels will be available for sale on Saturday from 6:00 p.m.
to 7:45 p.m., with the concert starting at 8:00 p.m. On Sunday, beer and food will be available
for purchase from noon to 1:45 p.m., with the concert starting at 2:00 p.m.
Vectren’s Oktoberfest, conducted by Maestro Alfred
Savia, will include your favorite drinking songs, waltzes,
marches and polkas. The program includes music from “The Sound of Music”, “The
Student Prince”, Edelweiss, Pizzicato Polka, and much, much more.
The Sonnenschein Express showcases traditional folk songs and
instruments found in the Alpine region.
Their performances include sounds from instruments not often heard at
the Philharmonic: the Steirische
harmonica (button accordion), alphorns, cow bells, singing carpenters saw,
wooden laughter (alpine xylophone) and yodeling. In
addition, audience participation is always a big part of the performance.
The Sonnenschein Express is an Alpine/Oktoberfest show band out of
Orlando, Florida
and was founded by Martin Gross. All the
members of the band have performed or still perform at the German pavilion at
Disney World’s Epcot
Center.
Tickets start at $18.
Student price is $10 one hour before each concert. Student ID is required. For tickets, call the Philharmonic Box Office at (812) 425 – 5050
